Movies This Week: Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Pariyerum Perumal dominate the scene!

Very rarely do we see Tamil films dominating the entire scene of movie releases and this week happens to be one of them. Both Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and Pariyerum Perumal have proved to be the best among the new set of releases in a week and here is a detailed look at the movie options available this time around:


  • Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (Tamil): Mani Ratnam's film does not usually play to the commercial senses but this one has and the multi-starrer cast and A.R. Rahman's music have only aided in that direction. A movie about the battle for power among three successors of a powerful don is the base story and has a Godfather-like approach to it.   • Pariyerum Perumal (Tamil)A must see film about the never ending crisis called caste, Pariyerum Perumal has been unanimously praised by both the audience and the critics. The movie starrs actors Kathir and Anandhi and stands tall with the highest movie rating aggregate this week i.e 75%. (Review Here)


  • Johnny English Strikes Again (English): Part 3 of the Johnny English series, this movie brings back Rowan Atkinson who is now an English teacher, back to his goofy spy element. The movie is an assured laughter riot for fans and can be watched once even if you haven't watched the previous two films.


  • Smallfoot (English): An animated film with star voices lsuch Channing Tatum, James Corden, Zendaya, Gina Rodriguez, James LeBron among others, Smallfoot is about how a leader potential Yeti discovers the human race and forges a friendly bond with one of them. The movie can prove to be an entertaining watch for both adults and kids, the latter for the most part.


  • Devadas (Telugu)Devadas is about the strange bromance that brews when a sincere doctor (Nani) treats and gives refuge to a gangster-on-the run (Nagarjuna). This comic caper has opened to mixed reviews and stands with an aggregate rating of 55%.


  • Sui Dhaaga (Hindi): Another slice-of-life tale from Yash Raj Films, Sui Dhaaga is about how a working class tailor starts his own tailoring business on the insisitence of his wife and survives among all the hurdles. The movie has fantastic performances by Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma and can be watched once for its entertainment quotient.


Other films that occupy the screens of Chennai theatres this wekend are Aadavar (Tamil), Peppermint (English) which is a Jennifer Garner starrer revenge action film, Natakam (Telugu) and Pataakha (Hindi) which is a tale of two village-based frenemy sisters.
