Seethakaathi directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan is gearing up for a release tomorrow (December 20, 2018) and at this time, actor Vijay Sethupathi who will be appearing in three different looks in the film has sent out a video message about his feature in the movie. He has said,
"Seethakaathi is Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom fame Balaji Tharaneetharan's gratitude to the art forms..I come only in the first forty minutes of this movie so why call it my 25th film or my film. It is Ayya's film whose character I accepted and portrayed; it is a film about Ayya, Ayya's soul and Ayya's art..I thank the art which unites you who is in some part of the world and me who is in the other."
Also starring Archana, Gayathrie, Ramya Nambeesan among others, Seethakaathi is produced by Passion Studios in association with Trident Arts. The movie recently ran into trouble with a political party called The Indian National League, who raised objections over the use of the title Seethakaathi. A statement from Abdul Rahim, INL's distric head read,
“Seethakaathi was a great scholar, patron of Tamil poets and a great philanthropist..Although he was a Muslim by birth (his original name was Sheik Abdul Kader), his humanitarian deeds made him a role model for all..He supported one of the poets of his time, Umaru Pulavar who was the author of the monumental work Seera Puranam on the life history of Prophet Muhammad in Tamil.Using the name of a great man such as Seethakaathi for an entertainment film is condemnable. We will not allow anything to adversely affect the historically important image of Seethakaathi and so we ask the film team to immediately change the name of the movie. Vijay Sethupathi is a good actor but we cannot allow an entertainment film to bear the name of such a great man."
