Actress Deepika Padukone sent waves in the media by making an unexpected stop at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, where a targeted attack by masked mob [identified as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists] was carried out only on Sunday.
While her visit has been tagged everything from 'promotional stunt' to 'not enough', it is an undeniable fact that she is one of the biggest names from Bollywood to bring spotlight to the JNU protests till date.

However, #BoycottChhapaak has been trending online and it seems to come from those who weren't too pleased with her public support of JNU [Chhapaak is due to hit theaters on January 10, 2020].
And in response to the same several big names and her fans have been speaking out in support of the actor, who herself was once the target of a religious mob during the release of her earlier film Padmaavat.

As producer today @deepikapadukone would’ve been standing in the preview theatres in Mumbai waiting to hear praise being showered on her maiden production. She instead chose to stand in solidarity with #JNUstudents knowing fully well the ramifications of her actions. #RESPECT

Don’t even respond to this Atika. She did what she did. Deepika Padukone doesn’t need cheap publicity. She can stand in the middle of nowhere and have a hundred thousand people around her. They don’t know the power of Bollywood. The power of love they get and give. https://t.co/m3aL3Gtikp

Is there any movie, which didn't do good business due to boycott trend in Twitter? It seems, such trends will actually give publicity and increase the reach. #ISupportDeepika pic.twitter.com/KZK4U6UtVT

#IsupportDeepika for doing this despite her having a film releasing in 2 days. Knowing very well she was gonna be attacked by the trolls. I hope everyone supports her movie wholeheartedly, not just because she supported the students but the movie deserves to be watched. pic.twitter.com/mWhvzmYtVi
