One of Saravana Stores' owner and entrepreneur Arul Saravanan made his acting debut at the age of 52 with the recently released Tamil movie The Legend, which is estimated to be made on a budget of Rs. 40-50 Cr. For a debutant, Saravanan who is also the producer of the film ensured that the release was wide. This has reflected now in The Legend's opening day box-office collection which sums upto to a gross of Rs. 2 Cr.
This number is higher than Bollywood movie Dhaakad's opening day collection which was a mere Rs. 40-50 lakhs. Dhaakad starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead was made with a whopping budget of Rs. 80 Cr. The Legend is soon expected to surpass the life-time collection of Dhaakad which is Rs. 2.85 Cr. in gross.
Taapsee Pannu starrer Sabaash Mithu is another Bollywood film, that recently opened to a low Rs. 40 lakh gross. The biopic on Indian womens' cricket legend Mithali Raj was made on a budget of Rs. 30 Cr., released to a bigger buzz than The Legend, but ended up collecting just over Rs. 2. 12 Cr. in total.
