Tamil actor Dhanush made his Hindi debut with the Anand L Rai directed Raanjhanaa in 2013, and the film had music by AR Rahman. The Dhanush, Anand L Rai, AR Rahman trio also made another hit romantic musical titled Atrangi Re in 2021 which was a direct OTT release on Disney Plus Hotstar. Now, the actor-filmmaker-composer trio have once again reunited for a Bollywood movie titled Tere Ishk Mein.
Tere Ishk Mein has been hinted as a spiritual sequel to Raanjhana, and Dhanush plays a character named Shankar this time around. His character of a love-lorn Tamil boy named Kundan, who dies in Raanjhana knowing full well that the girl he has affection for plotted his death is referenced in the Tere Ishk Mein video.
Raanjhana ended with a dying Kundan's voice-over saying that he can be born again in the same Varanasi, fall in love with a girl like Zoya again, and be lovelorn again in her thoughts. The video of Tere Ishk Mein has Dhanush's voiceover stating, "Last time it was Kundan who was easily swayed. This time around, it's Shankar, What will you do?"
Tere Ish Mein is a production venture of Himanshu Sharma, writer of Raanjhana. Anand L Rai's Colour Yellow Productions is bankrolling this movie as well.
