Maharaja starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead is a Tamil language crime thriller that released in theaters on June 14, 2024, and on OTT on July 12, 2024. The film also starring Anurag Kashyap in an important role, has especially found a wider audience post its Netflix release last week. Maharaja is written and directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, and Vijay Sethupathi for a significant part of the movie appears with a noticeable ear bandage in it. 

Former US president Donald Trump was recently seen sporting a similar ear bandage, after he survived a shooting incident during one of his election rallies. Donald Trump's ear bandage was in tongue-in-cheek, linked to Vijay Sethupathi's ear bandage in Maharaja, by the online Indian lot.

Maharaja director Nithilan Swaminathan not just found the tongue-in-cheek humourous, but also loved the illustraions that were coming out of the parallels.
