Demonte Colony II: Vengeance of the Unholy, is part 2 of Arulnithi starrer hit horror movie Demonte Colony (2015). Based on the ghostly legends that surround the most haunted neighbourhood of Tamil Nadu's capital city Chennai, the Demonte Colony franchise is the brainchild of director Ajay Gnanamuthu, and the filmmaker has returned to write and direct Demonte Colony 2.
Demonte Colony 2 releases in theaters on August 15, 2024 (tomorrow). Here are a few quick reasons why the sequel warrants a watch in theaters:
1. Lore: The franchise of the Demonte Colony movies are based on a real life neighbourhood in Chennai called the Demonte Colony. Located off TTK road in the popular Alwarpet region, Demonte Colony is a two-street locality named after a wealthy Portuguese title holder named John De Monte. He founded the first settlement there, and lived with his equally wealthy wife Mary Bilderbeck De Monte, and son Christopher De Monte.

The Demontes owned several acres of land in what are now some of the poshest spots in Chennai city. Mary Bilderbeck De Monte suffered from mental illness, and John Demonte in the hopes of curing her built her a house and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel church in Kovalam/Colvelong. Two years later in 1810, 16 year old Christopher left India for higher studies and died before his return as a 22 year old in 1816.
The state of his wife, and the loss their only son, lead John Demonte to turn into a grieving old man longing for home. Today John Demonte and his son Christopher's mortal remains lay buried in Our Lady of Mount Carmel church. Before his death, John Demonte donated 150 acres of land and properties to the Archdiocese of Madras church in Mylapore. At some point, when the Mylapore Archdiocese tried to lease Demonte colony, pet dogs and watchmen kept dying. This lead to the lore that DeMonte Colony harbours ghosts.

2. Genre: Demonte Colony 2 is a fictional story. The movie is laced with horror, thriller and supernatural elements. Just the movie for anyone who enjoys spooks and chills.
3.
