Tamil star actor Suriya celebrates 27 years in the Tamil film industry. On this day in 1997, Suriya made his acting debut with the release of the movie Nerukku Ner. Suriya appeared alongside Vijay in the film, and his first director Vasanth gave the actor the stage name 'Suriya,' which has become a household name 27 years later. Nerukku Ner was produced by director Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies, and the film went on to win two Tamil Nadu State awards, besides being a commercial success.

Suriya is currently awaiting the release of a mega budgeted fantasy action film titled Kanguva, which is directed by Siva, and produced by Studio Green, UV Creations. Team Kanguva wished Suriya on his milestone of 27 years in Tamil Cinema, with this poster:

Suriya's first co-star Vijay recently had a release titled The Greatest Of All Time. Interestingly Vijay pays homage to his Nerukku Ner co-actor by featuring a poster of the Kanguva movie, with Suriya riding on a horse. The Greatest Of All Time director Venkat Prabhu has previously worked with Suriya on the action horror Massu Engira Masilamani (2015).
