Thalapathy 69 (tentative title) is actor Vijay's last movie before his full fledged entry into politics with his Election commission recognized political party, the Tamilaga Vetrri Kazhagam (TVK). As the leader of TVK, Vijay plans to contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections, becoming the next Chief Minister-hopeful for the state.  

On August 15, 2024 i.e. Indian Independence day, director H. Vinoth officially confirmed that he is helming Thalapathy 69. H. Vinoth described the movie as a 'commercial film with light political undertones'. Thalapathy 69 goes on floors from October, 2024. At this time, buzz has it that Malayalam star actor Mohanlal, is onboard Thalapathy 69.

Mohanlal previously shared screen space with Vijay in the 2014 movie Jilla. Thalapathy 69 would mark Vijay, Mohanlal's reunion after a decade plus. Buzz also has it that yesteryear actress Simran is likely to reunite with Vijay too on Thalapathy 69. Malayalam actress Mamitha Baiju (of Premalu fame) is another name said to be on board the Thalapathy 69 cast.  

H. Vinoth's script for Thalapathy 69, was originally planned for Kamal Haasan. The movie even went on floors as KH 233 before the project was shelved. While Harris Jayaraj was to compose music for KH 233,  Thalapathy 69 will have music by Anirudh Ravichander.

Bengaluru-based KVN Productions, known for predominantly producing Kannada and Telugu films, is said to be bankrolling Thalapathy 69. Vijay's last movie will have Sathyan Sooryan for cinematography. Actor Vijay is said to be playing a cop in Thalapathy 69.
