Vettaiyan: Rajinikanth, Rana Daggubati's Telugu promo follows title controversy

Vettaiyan starring Rajinikanth in the lead is out in theaters today in not just Tamil, but also in dubbed Telugu, Hindi and Kannada versions as Vettaiyan: The Hunter. The evening before Vettaiyan's release, Lyca Productions unveiled a special promo video, but only for the Telugu audience.

This promo gave us a glimpse of an action filled cop Rajinikanth, and corporate evil Rana Daggubati. Not just Lyca Productions, even the official X handle of Vettaiyan music composer Anirudh Ravichander, had sent out a tweet addressing the Telugu audience.

The reason Vettaiyan's Telugu viewers got exclusive updates was because of the film's Telugu title controversy. The Telugu audience took issue with the fact that a Tamil word was in the Telugu title of the movie, and they saw this as an imposition of the language/slight of the Telugu audience sentiments. With tensions rising to the level of boycotting Vettaiyan in Telugu, Lyca Productions released a detailed statement on why the common title was chosen.

Vettaiyan's Telugu distributor Dil Raju, Rana Daggubati, and Suresh Daggubati also explained in the Telugu press that Vettaiyan: The Hunter was chosen as a Telugu title mainly because of the unavailability of the desired Telugu title 'Vettagadu'. Post the explanation, an exclusive Vettaiyan promo was released only in the Telugu language.
