Colonel Amit Singh Dabbas, now a retired veteran of the Indian army was Major Mukund Varadarajan's commanding officer (CO) during his stint at the 44 Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). On April 25, 2014, Amit Singh Dabbas lost two men from his unit i.e. Major Mukund whom he had nicknamed 'Maddy' after actor Madhavan, and Sepoy Vikram Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra by the Indian government. 

Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead is a biopic on Major Mukund Varadarajan, who was posthumously awarded the Asoka Chakra, for his bravery in the April 25 Qazipathri counter terrorism operation in Shopian, J&K. The movie is slated to release on October 31, 2024 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada languages. Hindi actor Rahul Bose plays Colonel Dabbas in Amaran, and Bose like the other Amaran characters has been carefully made to look like the real person, his role is based on.

Amaran trailer showcases Colonel Dabbas instructing 'Maddy' to return during an operation, because of the lack of a backup. Sivakarthikeyan's dialogue, "I'll save every life I can and come back Sir" was quite a hit with the audience, and was celebrated in appreciation of the courage, defense men showcase on a regular basis, for protecting the country's civilians. 

Post loosing Major Mukund and Sepoy Vikram Singh to the Qazipathri operation, Colonel Amit Singh Dabbas put up a Whatsapp profile picture and status in honour of the two men on April 27, 2014. 10+ years later, Dabbas' Whatsapp status remains unchanged, which was showcased as an example of camaraderie in the 'Indian Army family' by director Rajkumar Periyasamy during 'Evolution of Amaran', Episode 6. 

Colonel Amit Singh Dabbas has also narrated the 14-page chapter on Mukund Varadarajan in the book India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh. Amaran is partly based on this book's chapter 7, 'I Got Hit, I Can't Believe It' which was Mukund V's last words to his Commanding Officer.
