Amaran: Rajkumar Periyasamy shares Indhu Rebecca Varghese, Arsheya Mukund's thoughts

Amaran starring Sivakarthikeyan, Sai Pallavi among others is a biopic on late Indian Army Major Mukund Varadarajan AC (P), and the film released in theaters on October 31, 2024. Amidst the overflow of love for the film and the Army men of this country, Amaran director Rajkumar Periyasamy has shared what Mukund Varadarajan's surviving wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese, and daughter Arsheya reacted to the movie.

Speaking to a Tamil YouTube channel post the film's release, Rajkumar Periyasamy revealed that he did not initially want Indhu to watch the movie because of the emotional effect it could have on her. But Indhu and Arsheya caught a screening of Amaran like everyone else, post the film's release. The director said,

"Indhu was very touched. I met her after the film's release and got to see her reactions in a theater. She mentioned actress Sai Pallavi a lot. Everytime she does that. She did that when Sai Pallavi's character intro had come, and she even connected when Sivakarthikeyan's title promo had dropped.

Watching Amaran movie she said, 'I viewed the film as Mukund, Indhu only. Beautifully done. I knew from the beginning that the film is in safe hands'. She connected with the film very well. She liked Amaran very much.

Arsheya (Mukund Varadarajan's daughter who was only 3 when he passed away), cried a lot towards the end. I had told them to not watch the movie. But she (Indhu) made it a point. She is a very strong woman, and a very elegant person.

Indhu told me that Sivakarthikeyan acting in Mukund's character had convinced her. I think as actors they (Sai Pallavi and Sivakarthikeyan) have achieved, and given credibility to their performance. That is what is the most satisfying for me too."

Amaran is produced by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International and Sony Pictures International Production. The movie has GV Prakash Kumar for music, CH Sai for cinematography, Stefan Ritcher for 85% of the stunts, and R. Kalaivanan for edits.

In another YouTube chat, Rajkumar Periyasamy has revealed that Indhu Rebecca Varghese also reacted to Rajinikanth's praise of the movie. She apparently told the filmmaker that Mukund would be happy over Rajinikanth's salute, as he is a fan of the Superstar.

"Mukund Varadarajan's favourite hero was Rajinikanth. I had told Rajini Sir about it (when they showcased Amaran to the Superstar), and said that his wife always says, 'Mukund would be smiling now, he would be very happy (to see Sivakarthikeyan playing his character do the Rajini mannerisms in Amaran)'.

Indhu Rebecca Varghese saw the video where Rajinikanth says, 'And a salute to the great Mukund Varadarajan', and messaged me. It read, 'Mukund will be very happy, this moment actually made me tear up. He will be stoked now'. That was very special to me." - Amaran director Rajkumar Periyasamy.
