Tamil hit film Maharaja starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, released in China under the title Karma and Retribution on November 29, 2024. In the first 10 days of its release i.e. till December 8, the movie has managed to gross 50 million Chinese yuan (Rs. 58.49 Cr) in box-office collections.

Written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja is a revenge thriller that follows the story of a barber who seeks help from the police when a prized possession of his gets stolen. The police who initially jeer at his request, show interest until they learn what they're really looking for.

Maharaja's Chinese version Karma and Retribution was distributed by Yi Shi Films, Alibaba Pictures. A production venture of The Route, Think Studios and Passion Studios, the movie also stars Anurag Kahsyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhimrami, Dhivyabharathi, Singampuli, among others, and has B. Ajaneesh Loknath for music.
