This romantic drama has good ideas with problematic takes

The unintentional comedy has worked majorly in �Irugapatru�, especially the scenes involving the late Manobala and Abarnathi. So are the performances of Vikram Prabhu, Shraddha Srinath, Sri, Saniya Iyappan and Vidharth. Abarnathi stood out among all because of the comedy timing.(more)

A satisfying relationship drama that could have had less message and more life

Yuvaraj makes up for the slightly underwhelming feeling that these two stories leave us with with the Ragnesh-Pavithra track, the most relatable and best performed among the three. Both the writing and the performances are detailed enough to give us a sense of lived-in feeling. We realise Ragnesh's issue, which seems bizarre and chauvinistic at first, is deeply personal when we hear him pouring his heart out to Mitra in an affecting monologue, which Vidaarth sells efficiently. And Abarnathi brings out the naivety of Pavithra with her subtle body language and her voice modulationsn it's a well-calibrated performance that is charming and instantly earns our empathy. That said, this episode also runs the risk of being interpreted wrongly, and setting an unfair body image yardstick for married women.(more)

A flawed but heartfelt drama with impressive performances

They say that even if therapy helps you solve 99 per cent of your problems, none of it would matter if you aren�t willing to put in that extra one per cent. Irugapatru is one such casual support circle discussion that might work for those who give in to its demands; if the film makes you look into the eyes of your loved one (what Mithra proposes we do every day) or introspect to learn from our mistakes, it�s a good evening at the movies.(more)
