Blend of Mythology and Dystopian Fiction
The visual extravagance of the movie with stunning visual effects overpowers the little emotional connect that one may feel throughout the movie. The movie draws inspiration from stunt sequences in movies as the Mad Max Fury Road, Marvel Cinematic Universe, and some subtle references to Avatar and other epic movies. Kalki shows the stark contrast and conflict between the dark and chaotic world of Kali Yuga, and the bright and serene world of Shambhala. (more)

Big B's powerful punches and stunning visuals shine above the film's flaws
Kalki 2898 AD is undeniably a larger-than-life visual spectacle that transports viewers into a vividly imagined universe. In fact, the films visual quality is so high that it overshadows many of its obvious flaws by engaging the audience into the atmospherics of the make-believe world of Kasi and the Complex. Moreover, it's a concept that can spark imaginative experiences beyond the cinema. If you enjoy diving into a world of epic battles between Gods, good, and evil, then 'Kalki 2898 AD' offers quite a satisfying audio-visual experience, even though it may require some patience.(more)

Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan shine in a visually stunning drama
Kalkis narrative has several subtexts to decode, long after the film is over. The parallels drawn between Yaskin and Kamsa, the design of the Complex, the surroundings of Yaskin and the flying machine used by Manas. There is a lot to root for. If only it had sidestepped the lacklustre romance and the underwhelming dialogues to make for a more cohesive narrative. Despite these shortcomings, Kalki is a brave new attempt that deserves big cheers.(more)

'Epic-like' Amitabh Bachchan towers over Prabhas' staggering spectacle
The thing is, a film of this order of magnitude, will be a sprawl. It will have a whole array of characters. Thats a given. The challenge is to keep everything up and running, while keeping us suitably engaged. Kalki manages to do this only post-interval, after getting us all bored and impatient in the first. The worst part are the laugh tracks large tracts of which are given to Prabhas to shoulder which just dont land. I cant say if its the same in the Telugu or Tamil versions, but in the Hindi version that I watched, most of the attempted humour comes off unfunny, and slows the film down. The only exception is a robot called Bujji (voiced by Keerthy Suresh), fashioned as Bhairavas cutesy, smart-mouthed side-kick, who induces a smile.(more)
